Drone attack targets Caspian Pipeline Consortium

The Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) said that on July 19, 2026, two oil tankers loading crude at its offshore mooring facilities, VPU-1 and VPU-3, "were subjected to a deliberate terrorist attack using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)".

Axar.az reports that according to the consortium, the tankers ASIA, carrying crude from Tengizchevroil (Chevron), and NISSOS IOS, carrying oil from Kashagan B.V. and KazMunayGas, came under attack while loading at the CPC Marine Terminal.

The vessels, sailing under the flags of Liberia and the Marshall Islands, respectively, had international crews on board.

The attack sparked a fire aboard the ASIA, which was extinguished with the assistance of CPC emergency response teams.

Oil loading operations have been suspended. The consortium said no CPC employees or contractor personnel were injured or killed, no oil spill occurred, and no crew members required medical assistance. Both tankers remained afloat, while damage assessments are underway.

The CPC said the consortium includes major energy companies from Russia, the United States, Kazakhstan, and several Western European countries, adding that it views the attack on its facilities and the civilian vessels at its marine terminal as an attack on the interests of all CPC member states.
