Turkiye says it closely monitors regional developments

Turkiye is closely monitoring and assessing developments in the region, including Cyprus, and continues to take both political and military measures to address threats and challenges.

Axar.az informs, citing Turkish media, that responding to a written parliamentary question, Defense Minister Yasar Guler said NATO has shifted its focus since the end of the Cold War toward operations and crisis management within the alliance's area of responsibility.

He also highlighted the United States' increased focus on the Asia-Pacific region and its recent reduction of conventional forces in Europe, saying this requires greater responsibility from Washington's European allies and Canada.

"Within the framework of its regional responsibilities, Turkiye, together with its NATO allies Bulgaria and Romania, is taking all necessary measures to maintain security and stability in the Black Sea. We fully support efforts to achieve a just, lasting and dignified peace in Ukraine and remain committed to promoting sincere dialogue among the parties," Guler said.

On Cyprus, Guler said Ankara seeks to preserve the island's fragile balance of power by periodically conducting combat readiness exercises to ensure the security of both Turkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
