Russia, Ukraine begin Oleshky ceasefire

The Russian army introduced a ceasefire, described as a “silence regime,” in the Kherson direction at 4:00 a.m. Moscow time on Tuesday in preparation for a humanitarian operation near the town of Oleshky, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Axar.az reports, citing Russian media, the evacuation of residents from Oleshky under the humanitarian agreement could take several days.

The ceasefire in the town could also set a precedent for other areas where humanitarian pauses are needed, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said earlier.

“We hope that the Ukrainian side will honour all the agreements reached with the direct participation of American negotiators representing Melania Trump,” Peskov told reporters.

Russia’s human rights commissioner, Yana Lantratova, said the evacuation of residents from Oleshky should be carried out on a voluntary basis.
