Russia's Novaya Gazeta announces closure after 33 years

Russia's Novaya Gazeta, founded in 1993, has announced it is shutting down after being added to the Justice Ministry's register of foreign agents in September.

Axar.az reports, citing BBC, that the announcement came a day after the newspaper revealed that it was being forced to vacate its Moscow office, which it had occupied for nearly 30 years.

"Novaya Gazeta has been killed. We are bringing the newspaper's run to an end. On November 9, we will turn off the lights in the building that has been our home for 30 years. We will shut down our servers and leave," the newspaper said in a statement on its website.
