The Israeli navy has significantly strengthened its presence in the Red Sea.

Axar.az reports that the statement came from Eli Sharvit, a reserve vice-admiral of the Israeli navy.

He said the move was prompted by Iran's growing threat to Israeli ships.

"Iran's activities at sea are a major threat to shipping. The state of Israel will protect the free movement of its ships around the world."
