Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has emphasized that Moscow is interested in developing good relations with Baku.
Axar.az informs responding to a question about Azerbaijan’s reaction to the detention of members of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Yekaterinburg, a Kremlin spokesperson stated that these events are related to law enforcement activities and should not be used as a reason for diplomatic démarches.
“We are interested in continuing to strengthen our good relations with Azerbaijan,” Peskov said.
For context, Russian security forces on June 27 conducted raids at residences of Azerbaijanis. These raids resulted in the brutal killing of two Azerbaijanis, severe injuries to several others, and the detention of nine individuals.
In response to the targeted and extrajudicial killings and acts of violence against Azerbaijanis based on their ethnicity, demonstratively perpetrated by Russian law enforcement agencies in the Yekaterinburg region of the Russian Federation - and considering the systematic nature of such incidents in recent times - all cultural events planned in Azerbaijan involving Russian state and private entities have been cancelled.
