Oleksandr Tkachenko, the former chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, died.

Axar.az reports that presenter Mykola Kniazhytsky wrote about this on Facebook.

It should be noted that Tkachenko was the deputy speaker of the country's parliament from 1994 to 1998, and the chairman of the same institution from 1998 to 2000. He opposed Leonid Kuchma, who was the president from 1994 to 2005. He first represented the Peasant Party and since 2002 the Communist Party.

For the past 10 years, the politician was ill and moved around using a wheelchair.

Tkachenko would have turned 85 in March.
