Armenia has officially recognized Palestine, and many factors are behind this decision, from global pro-Palestinian trends to a demarche against Israel and a desire to get closer to Muslim countries.

Axar.az reports that Armen Petrosyan, an expert of the "Orbeli" analytical center, expressed these thoughts in an interview with "Sputnik Armenia".

According to Petrosyan, this decision of Armenia may be related to the problems of the Armenian community in Israel and the sending of Israeli weapons to Azerbaijan:

"The main risks are related to the security of the Armenian community, the possible increase of anti-Armenian sentiment in radical circles in Israel, and the aggravation of the problem of church property of the Jerusalem Patriarchate of the Armenian Apostolic Church. On the other hand, the recognition of Palestine can improve Armenia's relations with neighboring Muslim countries and Middle Eastern states. Considering the position of Turkeiye and Iran on the Palestinian issue, Yerevan's step can be an additional factor in the normalization and rapprochement of relations with these countries. "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkiye has already welcomed Armenia's decision."

However, the expert does not believe that Armenia's pro-Palestinian steps will change the balance of power in the Armenia-Turkiye-Azerbaijan triangle:

"The positions of Ankara and Baku on the Palestinian issue are somewhat different. However, this does not mean that Turkiye will take steps towards rapprochement with Armenia without taking into account the interests of Azerbaijan. The main component in the Yerevan-Ankara-Baku triangle remains the relationship between Yerevan and Baku. The "case" of Palestine is not capable of changing Turkiye's views on the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.
