The Venezuelan opposition has categorically rejected the electoral authority's declaration of Nicolas Maduro's reelection as President, instead calling upon the military to intervene in the matter.
Axar.az reports that this development has also sparked concerns from the United States and several Latin American nations, who have expressed reservations about the legitimacy of the official results.
According to the electoral center, Maduro secured 51.2% of the vote in Sunday's election, whereas his opponent Edmundo Gonzalez garnered 44.2%.
However, opposition leader Maria Corina Machado has disputed these figures, claiming that her coalition's analysis of 40% of the tabulated votes indicates that Gonzalez is leading with 70% of the vote.
