French President Emmanuel Macron called the new Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian.
Axar.az reports that the French leader expressed concern over the escalation of the situation in the region after the killing of the political leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, and called on Iran to exercise restraint.
Pezeshkian assessed the murder of Haniyeh, who was an official guest in Iran, as Israel's attempt to further ignite the war in the region.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran considers the prevention of war and efforts to establish global peace and security as its main principles. However, it will never remain silent in the face of violations of its interests and security within the framework of international agreements and laws," Pezeshkian told Macron.
He emphasized that the US and Western countries support Israel's actions instead of condemning them.
Emphasizing that Iran has consistently played a decisive role in promoting peace, stability and security in the region and the world, Pezeshkian said that Iran reserves the right to respond proportionately to Israel's act of aggression:
"The United States and Western countries support a regime that does not follow any international laws and regulations and does not refrain from any criminal acts in the region, showing a contradictory and ambiguous approach. Western countries call on the countries that are the targets of terrorist acts to refrain from retaliating and to exercise restraint. If the US and Western countries want to prevent war and insecurity in the region, they must immediately stop selling arms and supporting Israel and force it to stop attacks on Gaza and agree to a cease-fire. "As long as Israel, which receives political, financial and military support from the West, continues genocide and terrorist acts in Gaza and elsewhere, there will be no stability, security and peace in the region and the world."
