Kazakhstan does not plan to join BRICS yet, despite the fact that the country's president, Qasım-Jomart Tokayev, has received such proposals.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by the press secretary of the President of Kazakhstan, Berik Uali.

"Currently, and most likely in the near future, Kazakhstan will refrain from applying for BRICS membership, considering the multi-step process involved in membership issues," Uali said.

He noted that proposals to join BRICS have been reviewed by the head of state from the perspective of Kazakhstan's national interests.

However, Tokayev currently views the UN as a universal and indispensable organization where all relevant international issues can and should be discussed. At the same time, the Kazakh president supports reforms of the UN Security Council based on extensive consultations among UN member states and taking into account the interests of middle powers, as he believes that this body has lost its authority in making important and fateful decisions. Regarding BRICS, Tokayev is keenly observing the evolution of this association and intends to participate in the summit that will be held in Russia.

It was previously reported that Tokayev would address the summit in Kazan.
