Yahya Sinwar, the head of Hamas' Political Bureau, directly participated in battles against Israeli soldiers in the Gaza Strip for 18 days.
Axar.az informs that this information was reported by the newspaper Turkiye, citing sources within the movement.
The source stated that after taking over the leadership of the Political Bureau in August, he was advised to avoid direct involvement in combat:
"However, he did not want to stay away from the battlefield and wished to die in combat. He fought against Israel in Rafah for 18 days. On the day he was killed, he was also fighting alongside four of his comrades, and the battle lasted for nearly two hours."
According to the source, his comrades engaged in fire to distract Israeli soldiers and draw fire away from him, which is why Sinwar was alone when he was killed (all his fighting companions also died).
The source emphasized that the movement is preparing a roadmap for activities following Sinwar's death.
It should be noted that Yahya Sinwar was killed on October 16 during an unplanned operation by the Israeli army. Israeli soldiers unexpectedly encountered Hamas members in Rafah (in the Tel-Sultan area), leading to a shootout. The site of the gunfire was subsequently struck by a tank shell. A drone then discovered Sinwar injured in the rubble, and an Israeli sniper fatally shot him in the head.
Israel confirmed Sinwar’s death on October 17.
