The newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, has proposed the appointment of Fox News host and U.S. Army veteran Pete Hegseth as Defense Secretary.

Axar.az reports that this information was provided by Trump's transition team’s press center.

"He is tough, smart, and truly believes in America," Trump said.

He expressed confidence that under Hegseth’s leadership, the American military would be rebuilt into a large and powerful force again.

It is worth noting that among the other candidates are prominent Congressman Mike Rogers and retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg.

Pete Hegseth, 44, is a veteran of the National Guard, having participated in military operations in Iraq, Guantanamo, and Afghanistan. He has been with Fox News since 2014 and openly supported Trump in 2016.
