Personally, I considered it inappropriate to hold the EU summit in Armenia.

Axar.az reports that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said these words in the parliament on December 4 when he answered the question "Has Yerevan really asked to hold the EIA summit in St. Petersburg, not Armenia" (since Armenia is the country that chairs the EIA).

"I can tell you why. "Unfortunately, due to the coincidence of circumstances known to you, not all members of the Supreme Economic Council of the EU are desirable for Armenia," Pashinyan said.

Pashinyan also clarified the question of whether this decision is related to the ratification of the Rome Statute and the possibility of Vladimir Putin's detention in general.

"We contacted our Russian colleagues on the eve of ratifying the Rome Statute. We showed them the example of the United States. In our relationship with the United States, we have a separate treaty that emphasizes certain features of the Rome Statute. We offered the same mechanism to Russia, but Russia did not agree to it for some reason," Pashinyan said.

According to the Armenian media, Nikol Pashinyan "most likely" hinted at Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, whose presence in Armenia is not welcome. Moreover, Pashinyan said that as long as Lukashenko is the president of Belarus, he will not go to this country.

It should be noted that Armenia currently chairs the EU. Yuri Ushakov, assistant to the President of Russia, said in his statement to the media that at the request of the Armenian side, the EU summit will be held in St. Petersburg on December 25, not in Armenia.
