Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has commented on the remarks made by the new U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkiye in the context of events in Syria.

Axar.az reports that in an interview with "France 24," Fidan stated that Trump had not made any negative comments in this regard.

"I think his remarks were meant to commend the situation. The events in Syria cannot be interpreted as a 'takeover' by Turkiye. If there is talk of a takeover, it is about the Syrian people reclaiming their authority," he said.

It should be noted that Trump previously stated that the key to future developments in Syria lies with Turkiye and described Erdogan as a very strong leader.
