James O'Brien, the assistant of the US Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, visited the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the US and expressed his condolences regarding the accident of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane in Aktau.

Axar.az informs that this was reported by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the United States.

It should be noted that on December 25, the AZAL plane carrying out the Baku-Grozny flight was shot down by Russian air defense systems in the sky of Grozny and was seriously damaged. The plane headed for Aktau crashed near the Aktau airport because it was not allowed to land. As a result of the accident, 38 of the 67 people on board died, and 29 survived.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin called President Ilham Aliyev and apologized for the incident.
