US President Donald Trump voiced new claims regarding Canada's trade policy after a telephone conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and said he would talk to him again during the day.

Axar.az reports citing foreign media.

"Canada doesn’t even allow U.S. Banks to open or do business there. What’s that all about? [There are] Many such things, but it is also a DRUG WAR, and hundreds of thousands of people have died in the U.S. from drugs pouring through the Borders of Mexico and Canada. Just spoke to Justin Trudeau. Will be speaking to him again at 3:00 P.M. (8:00 P.M. GMT - TASS)," Trump wrote on Truth Social network.

On February 1, Trump signed an executive order introducing customs duties on goods from Canada, China, and Mexico. According to the document, duties of 25% are imposed on imports from Mexico and Canada (10% on Canadian energy resources). Additional duties of 10% are imposed on goods from China. Canada, China, and Mexico account for a third of all goods and services imported by the United States. In 2023, the combined export volume of these three countries to the United States amounted to almost $1.5 trillion. Canadian authorities imposed retaliatory duties of 25% on American goods worth a total of 155 billion Canadian dollars ($106.5 billion).
