Donald Trump welcomed American teacher Marc Fogel back to the US after his release from a Russian prison, where he had been held since 2021 for possessing medical marijuana.

Axar.az reports that Fogel’s release was part of a US-Russia exchange deal, with Trump calling it a “show of good faith” from Russia and potentially a step towards ending the war in Ukraine.

Fogel, who taught at the Anglo-American School of Moscow, thanked Trump for his role in securing his release and criticized the Biden administration’s delay. The family expressed relief, ending a "dark and painful" period. The details of whether the US released anyone in return remain unclear.
