In an effort to cut costs at the State Department, the Trump administration is considering closing a slate of U.S. consulates and diplomatic posts around the world.

Axar.az reports that citing NBC News.

Consulates in Europe, Canada, Mexico and the Pacific Islands are among those that could be shuttered. The officials said that Trump has reviewed a list of consulates but that no final decisions have been made and that a timeline for possible closures has yet to be set.

Some consulates have been placed under review by officials at the State Department, who have been asked to assess their relevance to Trump’s "America First" agenda as a measure of their importance.

Officials are also considering the diplomatic necessity of the consulates and considering the types of additional government activities that could take place in them, like military contacts with other countries and intelligence gathering.
