Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the Israeli police of attempting to "topple" his government through a politically motivated investigation into alleged financial ties between his office and Qatar.
Axar.az, citing Fox News, reports that Netanyahu denied any wrongdoing and claimed there was no evidence against two aides, Eli Feldstein and Yonatan Urich, who were reportedly arrested on charges including contact with a foreign agent, bribery, and fraud.
The investigation, referred to as "Qatargate," is under a gag order, but it allegedly involves media messages related to Qatar’s role in hostage negotiations.
Netanyahu suggested the probe is aimed at preventing him from firing Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar, whom he planned to replace due to "ongoing distrust." Israel's High Court temporarily froze Bar’s removal, but Netanyahu has named Vice Adm. Eli Sharvit as his potential successor.
