In an unexpected move, U.S. President Donald Trump imposed a 10% tariff on goods from uninhabited Australian territories near Antarctica, including Heard Island and McDonald Islands, despite their lack of exports.

Axar.az, citing the Guardian, reports that the White House also listed Norfolk Island separately from Australia, subjecting it to a 29% tariff.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese criticized the move, saying, “Nowhere on earth is safe.” The reasoning behind the tariffs remains unclear, especially given the islands’ minimal or non-existent trade with the U.S.
