Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Commission Launches Probe into Pashinyan’s Post on Clergy.

The State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption, which also oversees ethical matters in Armenia, has launched an investigation into an inappropriate post made by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan concerning members of the clergy.

According to Axar.az, this was announced by Mariam Galstyan, the acting head of the commission.

“We initiated the investigation on our own on the day the post was published,” she said.

Galstyan also noted that the commission is reviewing a complaint submitted by lawyer Ara Zohrabyan regarding Pashinyan’s remarks, and a decision on whether to proceed with the case is likely to be made on June 9.

She stated that if it is determined that Pashinyan violated ethical standards, he will be required to provide a public explanation in accordance with procedures. However, the commission cannot refer the matter to the prosecutor’s office, as it concerns ethical violations, not signs of a criminal offense.

It should be noted that some time ago, Nikol Pashinyan accused a church representative of having a secret affair with his wife’s aunt and used uncensored language in his statement.
