During a campaign event on Thursday, former President Donald Trump mocked Iran’s retaliatory missile strike following last month’s U.S. attack on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Axar.az, citing The Hill, reports that Trump claimed Iran gave prior notice before launching 14 missiles at a U.S. base in Qatar, which he said were all “shot down routinely.”
“They were nice enough — this is Iran — to call me and tell me that they would like to shoot at me 14 times,” Trump joked, adding that U.S. defense systems intercepted every missile.
Trump used the moment to highlight what he called a major foreign policy success and announced that the pilots and mechanics involved in the strike mission over Iran would be honored at the White House during July 4 celebrations.
He also indicated Iran is now seeking dialogue: “I think they want to meet. I know they want to meet,” he said, noting that Steve Witkoff, his special envoy to the Middle East, is managing ongoing communication with Tehran.
