Water consumption in Tabriz has reached a critical red level, and the city now has only 75 days of water reserves remaining.
Axar.az reports that this statement was made by Yusif Ghafarzadeh, head of the East Azerbaijan Province Regional Water Company, during a press conference.
He stated that the average consumption of drinking water in the region has reached 12,000 liters per second, exceeding 13,000 liters per second during peak hours. The annual drinking water consumption now stands at 380 million cubic meters, which he described as a very large figure requiring serious management. Additionally, 90 million cubic meters of water are consumed in rural areas.
Ghafarzadeh noted that five cities in the province are currently in red status (crisis level), while nine more cities are approaching crisis conditions. “Tabriz is among the cities already in a critical situation,” he emphasized.
