Azerbaijan Silk Way Airlines An-12 Cargo Plane Has Crashed In Afghanistan, Killing Seven Crew Members.
Axar.az reports citing Airbook Aero that Antonov was performing a cargo flight from Camp Dwyer (a former US Marine Corps military camp located within the Helmand River Valley in the Garmsir District of Afghanistan) to an unspecified domestic location in Afghanistan, says an Aviation Herald report.
The freighter, with nine crew members, lost height after an engine failed on departure from Camp Dwyer.
Seven occupants perished in the resulting impact with terrain.
Two Ukrainian crew members survived with serious injuries and were taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Azerbaijan’s Accident Investigation Commission has reportedly dispatched an investigating team to Camp Dwyer.
The crew consisted of one Uzbekistan citizen, three Ukrainians, and five Azeris.
AZAL states that this crash occurred in 2016, May 18.
“We are aware of the information that has been released. The incident occurred on May 18, 2016. The Azerbaijani State Civil Aviation Administration (ASCAA) had also released official information on the incident. On May 18, 2016, at about 6:30 pm Baku time, there was an accident during a flight from Dwyer airport. The aircraft was controlled by an international crew. The delegation included Uzbekistan (captain), three Ukrainians and five Azerbaijani citizens.
Seven crew members were killed and two Ukrainian nationals survived.
