Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov on Thursday received the outgoing ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Azerbaijan Hong Jiuyin.

Mammadyarov spoke about Azerbaijan’s transport and transit potential, noting that the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway can become one of the most important parts of the Silk Road Economic Belt initiated by China.

He also underlined ample opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in humanitarian and tourism spheres.

The minister said China and Azerbaijan share the same position in important international issues and noted that Azerbaijan closely cooperated with China within the UN Security Council when it was a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2012-2013.

In his turn, the ambassador thanked FM Mammadyarov for the reception, stressing that China attaches great importance to the development of relations with Azerbaijan.
