On March 8, the President of the Republic of Latvia Egils Levits, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan, got acquainted with the Old City, one of the world cultural heritage monuments.

Axar.az reports that the visit of the dignitary to Icherisheher began with Maiden's Castle.

The President of Latvia was informed about the history of the monument, which is considered one of the symbols of Baku. It was reported that the Maiden Castle, founded in the 7th-6th centuries BC, was restored in the 12th century. The monument with a height of 28 meters and a diameter of 16-16.5 meters consists of a real cylinder-shaped fortress and a large support building adjacent to it from the south side. Conservation works were carried out here in 2009-2013 based on the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev in order to preserve this world-important monument and pass it on to future generations in its current form.

During the tour, the dignitary was given detailed information about the "Icherisheher" State Historical-Architectural Reserve, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, as well as the repair, improvement and restoration works carried out here. It was reported that rare historical architectural monuments of different centuries are preserved in the territory of Icherisheher.

Later, the President of Latvia got acquainted with Icherisheher Traditional Art Center. The "Dastan" brand of the center aroused great interest in the high-ranking guest. A commemorative gift was presented to the distinguished guest here.
