On October 23, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, got acquainted with the conditions created after reconstruction at the Sumgayit city stadium named after Mehdi Huseynzade.

Axar.az reports that the head of the Sumgayit City Executive Authority, Zakir Farajov, informed the head of state about the work done at the stadium.

It should be noted that the reconstruction of the Sumgayit City stadium named after Mehdi Huseynzade started in 2020 according to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated November 21, 2019. The construction works will be completed in 2022, with a phased implementation.

The area of the stadium with a capacity of 9502 people is 6.8 hectares. A VIP and media tribune for 545 people was created in the stadium, which consists of twenty-two sectors, the area was landscaped, and green areas were built.

It was reported that judo, boxing and karate halls will operate in the area under the building. Here, at the same time, there are 2 training rooms, a conference hall for 40 people, administrative rooms, rooms for journalists, judges, doctors, commentators, coaches and other technical and auxiliary rooms.

In recent years, great attention and care has been paid to the development of sports in our country. As a result of this, today Azerbaijani athletes achieve high results in international competitions and raise our tricolor flag. All this shows that the state policy is being successfully continued in the direction of ensuring the development of sports and its popularity in our country. This attention and care is also aimed at the healthy growth of the new generation, increasing the interest of young people in sports, and the use of such sports facilities plays an important role in the realization of this goal.
