The U.S. National Solar Observatory has released a clear image of the Sun’s surface taken by the Inouye Telescope in Hawaii.
Axar.az, the photo reveals, for the first time, thin magnetic stripes approximately 20 kilometers wide.
Scientists consider these stripes to be the “fingerprints” of magnetic activity on the Sun.
According to DailyGalaxy, this discovery could help better predict solar behavior—especially storms and eruptions—which can affect GPS systems, power grids, and satellites on Earth.
NSO scientist David Boboltz stated that this image is just the beginning of what we will be able to see.
