Armenia to restore rail links to Turkiye and Azerbaijan borders

Armenia’s government will restore railway lines leading to the borders with Azerbaijan and Turkiye using its own funds.

Axar.az informs that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made the statement during an election campaign event in the Shirak region.

He stated that reconstruction work will soon begin on the Gyumri–Akhurik and Akhurik–Turkish border sections.

“Work has already begun on the Turkish side, and the railway will be opened. We will also start reconstruction of the Yeraskh junction. The government of Armenia will take this on, although there is a concession agreement; we will make investments, we will repair the railway, restore it, and the railway line will be opened,” Pashinyan said, as broadcast by local media.

It should be noted that in 2008 Armenia signed a 30-year concession agreement with Russian Railways on the management of its railway system, with the possibility of a 10-year extension by mutual agreement.
