Putin and Aliyev explore paths to the peace

The positions of Russia and Azerbaijan in the South Caucasus and Caspian region are very important. The common stance on the settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations is also crucial to some extent. All attempts by non-regional countries to get involved in the settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations are unlikely to produce any meaningful positive results.

Axar.az reports that Leonid Kalashnikov, chairman of the Russian State Duma's Committee on CIS Affairs, made this statement.

"Some are trying to avoid the official and legal dissolution of the OSCE's Minsk Group. Why? It’s unclear. Moreover, this group did nothing to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. External players are still waiting for the opportunity to 'ignite' the region again. Only regional countries – Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia – can make decisions. Everything non-regional players do is simply a game to pursue their narrow self-interests. Macron has 'Napoleon plans' regarding the South Caucasus. He can’t even restore order in his own country, where there are protests against him in the streets. He continues to play in the South Caucasus, but he has no chance of winning this game. After the state visit to Azerbaijan and discussions on the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, Vladimir Putin called Nikol Pashinyan. Most likely, he conveyed the position discussed with the Azerbaijani leader. The situation is being discussed confidentially. Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev will seek ways to establish real peace between Baku and Yerevan," he said.
