Erdogan-Pashinyan meeting viewed as key moment for peace

The issue of peace is now a highly active topic of discussion. Both sides are making efforts towards it. President Ilham Aliyev has also emphasized the importance of the peace issue.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by conflict expert Elman Valiyev while commenting on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's proposal to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan by COP29.

According to him, Pashinyan's proposal, made after his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is noteworthy:

“In my view, the meeting with Erdogan is a significant turning point. The fact that it took place in the U.S. is no coincidence. Washington wants to see Erdogan and Pashinyan together. Erdogan shaking Pashinyan's hand is an opportunity for him.”

Elman Valiyev noted that concluding a peace treaty in a short timeframe is quite realistic:

“There are not many major problems for peace to be established. There are just some conflicting factors. One of these is the Zangezur issue. A route through Zangezur is possible. Erdogan likely touched on this matter during negotiations. As for the question of whether peace will be concluded by November, I believe it’s not impossible. The key issue is whether forces opposed to peace will exert pressure during this period! In my opinion, if there are no pressures and provocations, peace is possible!”
