Seven NATO member countries are opposed to Ukraine being invited to join the alliance.

Axar.az reports that according to Politico, citing sources in Washington and NATO, Germany and the United States are among the largest nations responding slowly to President Zelensky's urgent call for NATO membership, as they fear being drawn into a war with Russia.

Hungary and Slovakia are also resisting. Their current leaders generally hold pro-Kremlin positions. Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban has blocked EU funds allocated for arming Ukraine and has withdrawn from a NATO program providing military assistance to Kyiv. Meanwhile, Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico warned that Ukraine's NATO membership could serve as a trigger for World War III, which he stated he would never agree to.

One official from NATO mentioned that Belgium, Slovenia, and Spain also oppose Ukraine's NATO membership. However, these countries are largely hiding behind the positions of the U.S. and Germany. They abstractly support the idea, but will likely begin to oppose it more openly as it comes closer to realization.
