A transition to a fragmented world is currently taking place, meaning there is a shift from a global world to regional country unions. In this context, there are ample opportunities for the strengthening of the D-8.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by Natig Jafarli, Chairman of ReAL and economist, while discussing the potential opportunities for Azerbaijan's economy with membership in the D-8 in an interview with our correspondent.

According to him, Azerbaijan's membership in this organization is significant both in terms of prestige and economics:

"Azerbaijan's participation in this organization will strengthen our position in the Global South. Moreover, we must be together with Turkiye, supporting each other, and become the leader of the organization. I consider our membership in the D-8 to be a successful step, and I believe that it is more correct to act in coordination with Turkiye. This creates new economic opportunities for Azerbaijan. Because we have the potential to increase economic relations with the countries in that organization. Additionally, it opens up easy access to new markets for Azerbaijan.Opportunities are emerging to export our local products and agricultural goods not only to Russia, but also to other countries."

It should be noted that on December 19, 2024, during the 11th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization of Eight Developing Countries (D-8) in Cairo, Egypt, Azerbaijan was unanimously selected as a member of the D-8 organization with the support of Turkiye. The organization includes Turkiye, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Egypt, Nigeria, and Pakistan.
