German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called accusations of genocide against Israel "absurd" during a podcast interview with journalist Tilo Jung.
Axar.az, citing JP, reports that Scholz emphasized that while there can be legitimate criticism of Israel's actions in its conflict with Hamas, the allegation of genocide is unfounded.
He also stated that, as a lawyer, he believes that any findings by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) accusing Israel of genocide would be a misjudgment. Scholz reaffirmed Germany’s support for Israel, including military assistance, and reiterated his condemnation of Hamas's October 7 attack.
He has consistently voiced strong support for Israel, including during a visit to the country in October 2023.
