Turkish and British officials will meet in Ankara to discuss Syria’s future, focusing on security, sanctions, and economic development.
Axar.az, citing The Times of Israel, reports that Turkiye, a former backer of Syrian rebels, has since forged ties with the new Damascus administration after Bashar al-Assad’s ouster last year.
Turkiye has pledged to assist in rebuilding Syria and supporting its security forces.
Britain recently announced plans to adjust its Syria sanctions policy while maintaining asset freezes and travel bans on former government members. During the talks, Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yilmaz will push for the unconditional lifting of sanctions and emphasize international support for Syria’s national reconciliation efforts. He will also call for action against Israel’s alleged violations of Syria’s sovereignty.
