According to statements from human rights observers and UN representatives, nearly a thousand civilian casualties have been reported in the recent clashes in Syria. Of course, it is impossible to know the exact number of those killed in Syria, as there is clearly widespread disinformation on both sides. Images and sounds from previous massacres in other regions are being combined and presented as part of the current situation.
Axar.az reports that these remarks were made by retired Turkish General, former military attaché Yucel Karauz, when commenting on the reports of massacres in the recent events in Syria.
According to him, these events are part of a larger game involving major powers around Syria:
"It is clear that a big game is taking place here. Because the events in Syria are the result of the ongoing struggle for the country’s unity, its division, or its transformation into a federal structure. States or groups that seek the division of Syria are deliberately inciting these events. On the other hand, no one, especially with a sectarian approach, would wish for the killing of civilians. This is not in line with law or humanitarian values.
Syria's new leader Jolani (Ahmad al-Sharaa) has also stated that those responsible for civilian deaths and those who exceed their authority will be punished within the framework of the law."
"The expert notes that a calm approach to the events can help find a way out of the current situation:
"It is clear that the greatest harm to the Islamic world has come from sectarian conflicts. Inciting this sectarian division and creating an environment of confrontation will not only drag Syria but the entire Middle East into risk and chaos. Everyone’s calm behavior, viewing the events through the lens of Syria's unity without being a tool in the hands of other powers, will prevent further bloodshed in the region."
It should be noted that clashes between Assad supporters (Nusayri-'Alawis) and government forces began in Latakia on March 6.
