Axar.az reports that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs published information about this.
During the meeting, the issue of Azerbaijanis who went missing during Armenia's aggression against Azerbaijan and the occupation of our territories, the current situation in finding and identifying missing persons, and efforts toward international cooperation were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that the issue of "missing persons" has always been in the spotlight and that up to 4,000 Azerbaijanis, including civilians, children, and women, went missing as a result of Armenia's aggression in the early 1990s.
The active role of the State Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Prisoners of War, Missing and Hostage Citizens, which has been organizing international conferences on this issue since 2023, was noted in this work.
It was emphasized that it is important to mobilize international efforts to resolve the issue of missing persons.
The Minister emphasized that the role of the international community in this issue is important, considering the importance of clarifying the fate of missing persons in terms of both the rule of law, justice, and the normalization of post-conflict relations. It was noted that our country has discovered 23 mass graves in the territories liberated from occupation so far. At the same time, it was noted that the mine threat seriously hindered the process of determining the location of missing persons.
During the meeting, the parties also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
