Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan has shared his personal reflections on the dramatic events following the signing of the November 10th ceasefire agreement, which marked Armenia’s capitulation in the conflict with Azerbaijan.

Axar.az reports Simonyan recalled the intense fear and uncertainty he felt on the night of the agreement, describing it as "hell" for both himself and the country.

"On November 9, 2020 (the night leading into November 10), we were in hell," Simonyan said. "I was in Russia at the time, and I kept thinking, 'Who should I fall at the feet of so that the war stops?'"

Simonyan recounted the chaotic series of events leading up to that moment: "On November 8, I was in a hotel and learned that a text of the November 10th agreement was being discussed. When I opened my phone, I realized it was a fateful night. Then, I heard that Ararat (Foreign Minister Mirzoyan) had been killed. Later, one of my friends, who had never been involved in politics, called and warned me to leave the hotel as it was unsafe."

Simonyan continued, saying that he later learned his home had been attacked, and he was escorted to another hotel by friends. "In Moscow, my friends had given me a weapon because they feared I would be attacked," he said. "At the time, there were widespread calls for revenge against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s government. But my thoughts were focused on something else—I feared that a civil war might break out, and we could lose the country."

It is important to note that after the signing of the November 10th statement, mass protests erupted in Yerevan. Demonstrators stormed the parliament, physically assaulting the then-speaker, Ararat Mirzoyan. The situation was brought under control by security forces in the early morning hours.
