A delegation led by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister and Lead Negotiator for COP29, Yalchin Rafiyev, has visited the United Mexican States.

During the visit, meetings were held with Enrique Ochoa Martinez, Deputy Minister for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Camila Zepeda, Mexico’s Chief Climate Negotiator; and representatives of the Mexican Council on Foreign Relations (COMEXI), one of the country’s prominent think tanks.
During the meeting with Deputy Minister Enrique Ochoa Martinez, satisfaction was expressed with the effective cooperation between Azerbaijan and Mexico within international organizations and other multilateral platforms. Yalchin Rafiyev informed his Mexican counterpart in detail about Azerbaijan’s foreign policy priorities, steps taken toward normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as upcoming events to be initiated and hosted by Azerbaijan on multilateral platforms.
The parties also discussed cooperation in the field of combating climate change and exchanged views on Azerbaijan’s presidency of COP29.
During the meeting with Mexico’s Chief Climate Negotiator, Camila Zepeda, the historic achievements of Azerbaijan under its COP29 presidency were highlighted, and the country’s successful leadership in this regard was commended.
During the meeting held at the Mexican Council on Foreign Relations (COMEXI), an exchange of views took place on Azerbaijan’s growing role in the region and its multifaceted foreign policy in the context of the new realities that emerged in the South Caucasus following the 44-day Patriotic War in 2020. The country’s initiatives and activities within international organizations were also discussed.
Azerbaijan’s COP29 presidency, the substance of the negotiations conducted within this framework, and the outcomes achieved were highly appreciated.
