Discussions on the text of the draft agreement on the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia have been completed.
Axar.az reports that Elchin Amirbekov, the Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan for Foreign Affairs, said this in an interview with the magazine "Mundo Internacional" during his working visit to Mexico.
E. Amirbekov spoke about the peace process with Armenia and noted that a historic opportunity has arisen to achieve sustainable and irreversible peace in the South Caucasus region after 30 years of conflict. At the same time, he spoke about the factors that hindered the signing of the agreement. Among them, it was emphasized that there are points in the Armenian constitution that contradict the content and spirit of the peace agreement, such as the existence of territorial claims against Azerbaijan, as well as the need to abolish institutions that have lost their significance, such as the Minsk Group.
In the interview, E. Amirbekov said that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to its relations with countries in the Latin American region, that Mexico is an important partner for Azerbaijan, and that his visit aims to contribute to the existing political dialogue between the two countries.
It was noted that there are broad opportunities for the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Mexico in various fields such as economy, trade, energy, culture, tourism, education, science, sports, and agriculture. Against the background of exemplary inter-parliamentary relations between the countries, active cooperation relations have been formed between friendship groups in the legislative bodies of both countries.
