Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev, speaking to AZERTAC during his visit to Ankara, Turkiye, expressed hope that Russia would soon provide Azerbaijan with details regarding the progress and outcome of the investigation into the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plane crash, as well as information on holding those responsible accountable.
Axar.az reports he emphasized that, as stated by President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan reserves the right to pursue claims in international courts should Russia fail to take the necessary steps.
Kamran Aliyev noted that immediately after the incident, Azerbaijan’s prosecuting authorities launched a criminal case under relevant articles of the Criminal Code. Russia’s Investigative Committee and the authorities of Kazakhstan also initiated criminal proceedings, given that citizens of all three countries were among the deceased and injured.
He stated that Azerbaijan’s relevant institutions are cooperating with both Russia and Kazakhstan. “As President Ilham Aliyev has noted, we are in regular contact with Russia’s Investigative Committee and have sent official requests. However, Russia has not yet provided specific findings, citing ongoing investigative procedures and expert analyses,” the Prosecutor General said.
Aliyev stressed that Azerbaijan had collected sufficient evidence from the outset. “We have gathered all necessary documentation and evidence related to the incident and its causes. We are also coordinating with Kazakhstan - members of our investigative team recently visited Kazakhstan for productive discussions with their counterparts. Furthermore, we are in contact with Brazilian prosecutors, as the Embraer-190 aircraft was manufactured in Brazil,” he added.
