Forecasts predict strong solar storms in 2025 due to periodic increases in solar activity, which could severely impact global internet networks.

Axar.az reports that scientists predict that such events could be caused by coronal mass ejections (CMEs), leading to geomagnetic storms.

Research by scientists from Stanford University suggests that subsea fiber-optic cables' repeater devices could be damaged by these events, potentially causing a collapse of global internet infrastructure. They believe that during such events, key data routing protocols and DNS systems could also be damaged, leading to long-term disruptions.

Scientists have noted that the likelihood of these geomagnetic storms occurring ranges from 1.6% to 12% every decade, and the consequences of such an event could be referred to as an "internet apocalypse."
