President Ilham Aliyev also commented on the information spread about Azerbaijan's participation in possible international missions in the Gaza Strip in an interview with local television channels.
Axar.az reports that the head of state, noting that it is still unclear who will issue a mandate in this matter and what it will be like, emphasized that Azerbaijan does not intend to participate in "peace enforcement" operations.
"I do not intend to participate in battles outside the borders of Azerbaijan at all," the head of state said, adding that we do not intend to risk the lives and health of Azerbaijanis for the sake of someone else.
"When we were in trouble, we were left to our own devices. No one defended us. Including, despite all my respect for Palestine and my sharing in its troubles. After all, Palestine did not defend us either. Yes, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation had resolutions that everyone supported. We are grateful to all countries for that, and Azerbaijan has always supported Palestine and the establishment of the Palestinian state in the UN, the Non-Aligned Movement, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The Palestinian embassy also operates in Azerbaijan, thanks to Azerbaijan's financial assistance. Therefore, my position has always been that the issues of Arab countries should be resolved by the Arab countries themselves," the president added.
