Armenia hands 2 POWs to Syria

Armenia has handed over to Syria two people it claims to have captured for fighting on the Azerbaijani side in 2020.

Axar.az reports that both men were sentenced to life imprisonment in Armenia.

The Armenian Ministry of Justice shared this information in light of the information that was spread today about the transfer of 4 Armenian prisoners to Armenia. It was noted that on January 14, 2026, Armenia transferred two prisoners of war - Muhrab Muhammad al-Shahri and Yusif Alabet al-Haji - to Syria through Turkey, and confirmed that they were in fact exchanged.

It should be noted that today, Azerbaijan transferred 4 Armenian prisoners - Khachatryan Vagif Cherkezi, Suzhyan Gevorg Rubenovich, Davtyan David Tigrani, and Euljekyan Vigen Abraham - to Armenia.
