Azerbaijan’s national carrier, AZAL, has issued a reminder for passengers planning to travel to Georgia about the current entry requirements.
Axar.az reports that, starting January 1, 2026, all foreign citizens entering Georgia are required to have a valid health insurance policy.
This requirement applies to travelers visiting Georgia for tourism, business, or transit purposes.
According to the rules, foreign citizens must be covered by health and accident insurance for the entire duration of their stay in Georgia—from the date of entry to the date of departure. The minimum coverage amount must be 30,000 Georgian Lari (GEL).
The insurance policy can be issued by Georgian or foreign insurance companies and must be presented in either electronic or paper form, in Georgian or English.
The airline recommends that passengers arrange their insurance before the flight to avoid fines, delays, or additional procedures.
AZAL notes that checking passengers’ insurance at check-in is intended only to inform travelers about the entry requirements.
This new rule is based on Georgia’s “Tourism Law” and the government’s resolution “On the approval of mandatory health and accident insurance rules and conditions for tourists visiting Georgia.”
