Possession of marijuana, that is three-quarters of an ounce or less, has been decriminalized in New Hampshire, as Governor Chris Sununu (R) signed House Bill 640 Tuesday.
Axar.az reports citing RT.
It easily passed the House, 318 to 36, on March 8. Then, the Senate passed it with a 17 to 6 vote in May. Sununu has called it “common sense marijuana reform.” Senator Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) fought amendments proposed by decriminalization opponent Senator Bill Gannon (R-Sandown).
A first violation runs a fine of $100, replacing the old punishment of one year in prison and up to $2,000 in fines. Until the law goes into effect in 60 days, New Hampshire is the only state in the New England area where possession amounts to a criminal offense.
