US President Donald Trump personally sent CIA Director John Ratcliffe to Moscow, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Axar.az informs, citing RBC, that according to the newspaper, Ratcliffe’s diplomatic mission to Russia was “so sensitive” that some senior White House officials were not informed about it in advance.

European officials said the CIA chief’s secret trip to Moscow, where he arrived from Latvia aboard a US C-17 military transport aircraft, prompted them to urgently seek information as soon as reports of the visit emerged.

As WSJ reported, Ratcliffe flew to Moscow on August 25 to warn that an attack on NATO countries would be unacceptable. Trump denied this and called the CIA chief’s visit a routine working trip.

“There was no message, and there was nothing unusual,” the White House chief said.

He noted that Ratcliffe meets with Foreign Intelligence Service chief Sergei Naryshkin “once every six months or once a year” and that “they have a very good relationship.”

The US president also believes that Russia does not intend to attack NATO.
