Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy said it had seized a U.S. unmanned underwater vehicle in the Strait of Hormuz.

Axar.az reports, citing Iranian media, that the IRGC identified the vehicle as a REMUS 600 autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). The IRGC said it detected and captured the vessel using intelligence capabilities and electronic warfare.

The IRGC said the vehicle was being held by its naval specialists for information recovery. It also described the REMUS 600 as having been used for intelligence-gathering activities in the Strait of Hormuz.

The reported incident would be the second U.S. unmanned underwater vehicle seized by Iran this month. On September 8, the IRGC said it had taken control of another underwater drone, identified as a Dive-LD, near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.

The REMUS 600 is designed for underwater missions including seabed mapping, object detection, mine searches and environmental data collection. It can operate at depths of up to 600 meters.
