Heavy rain kills 56 in India’s Uttar Pradesh

At least 56 people have died and 46 others have been injured in India’s Uttar Pradesh after 60 hours of continuous rainfall, according to state government data.

Axar.az reports, citing India Today, that the downpour has also killed 107 animals and damaged 1,021 houses across the state.

Sitapur recorded the highest number of deaths with seven, followed by Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich and Balrampur with five each. Ayodhya and Gorakhpur each reported four deaths.

The heavy rain has also damaged crops, caused severe waterlogging and triggered flash flood alerts in several areas.
